As always, there were so many wonderful stories it felt impossible to decide. You all are amazing. Here are my final picks.
WINNER
There Is No Spoon by Guy Cramer
It was too late, I’d purchased Matrix tickets.
“Sorry, no sitter,” she said, stowing my candy with her breast pump.

WINNER
Date with the Cheshire Cat by Joan Leotta
He grinned the entire two hours we dined, even while chewing. Frowned when I paid half, then walked home alone.
*
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Seeing Someone by Adele Gallogly
No seats left together, but you suggest watching anyway. Rachel McAdams grins at you in moonlit rainfall, only at you.
*
The Perils of Dating a Non-Asker by Madeleine Armstrong
You told me your life story, even your dog’s name. When I waited for a question from you: crickets.
*
Perfect Gentleman by Cheryl Snell
Abandoning his broken car in a vacant field, he hitched home. At least he had opened the door for me.
*
Three Dates In by Kelli Short Borges
We ponder dinner—Mexican or Thai?
“I’m easy,” I shrug.
“Have an opinion,” you bark.
“This is over.” I smile.
So much fun. Congrats to the winners! Thanks for the HM, Meg! ❤️
I loved-loved what the chosen winners and HMs came up with! Very clever group of dates gone wrong. My real-life first date with the ex (in 1984), makes a compelling story. Getting it down to just 20-words of trauma is the rub.🤣
